MIDDLE SCHOOL CALENDAR

MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM OVERVIEW
Who we are
- The MS Club team is managed and supported by the Somerset Hills Ice Hockey Association (SHIHA) Board Members and plays under the Bernards/Somerville/Middlesex Team Name.
- The Bernards/SomervilleMiddlesex Middle School Team is managed as a Club team and is not sanctioned by the Middle School or Board of Education.
- Our goal is to promote the development of Youth Ice Hockey in the Bernards, Somerville, and Middlesex School Districts.
- Our Middle School program is open to players in grades 6 through 8 residing in Bedminster, Bernardsville, Branchburg, Far Hills, Middlesex, Peapack- Gladstone and Somerville. Students entering 5th grade will also be considered. Players from surrounding towns who do not have a club team in the league will also be considered.
- The program offers a great opportunity for kids to play with other kids from town, at different age groups and skill levels who will potentially play together in High School on the Bernards/Somerville/Middlesex Varsity Team.
League & Games
- The Middle School Team has participated in the Bridgewater Middle School League for 12+ years.
- The league is run by BSA with all games played out of BSA on Sunday (early evenings) and a few Friday evenings.
- Typically it is a 12 game season plus playoffs.
- Other middle school teams we compete against include teams from Bridgewater, Hillsborough, Hunterdon, Watchung and Westfield; many of which also compete in the Skylands Conference with the High School Program.
- The Season begins in mid-October and ends in mid-March.
Coaching
- The head coach is Ron Pace. He is a qualified coach who also coaches with the Hunterdon Bears.
Practices
- Depending on skill level and player interest, Coach may schedule a few team practices; approximately 4-6 per season.
- Practices are limited since many players also to play for other travel teams that are usually a much bigger commitment and have regular practices and games during the same season.
Evaluations
- A pre-season skate/evaluation will be scheduled in September time frame to determine the skill level of the players.
- There is no official tryout and we welcome everyone regardless of gender or skill level.
Tuition
- Tuition includes league fees, jersey, socks, non-parent coach, end of season team dinner and player gift.
- The MS Tuition for the 2016-2017 season was $475 per player and is determined by the number of players rostered.
- A $200 deposit is due in September/ October timeframe to secure a spot on the roster with the balance due in November.
Fundraisers
- The SHIHA coordinates an Ad Journal fundraiser with the High School Program to help offset the cost to families.
- Fundraising usually starts in June/July Timeframe through October.
- Approximately 80% of individual player sales is returned to players via tuition credit.
- Middle School players are asked to sell $250 in ad sales.
- Check out the Booster Club section of this site for samples of previous season journals.
Volunteer
- As a parent run organization we need your help!
- We are always looking to add some fresh faces and new ideas into the program.
- We Invite you to get involved...if you are interested in becoming a board member, want to be a team manager or coordinate various team activities such as the end of season banquet and team uniforms, simply contact the coach.
